AAAI

Supporting angel investors for better investment outcomes

ANGEL POLICY FORUM OBJECTIVES

The funding of innovation in Australia has long been recognised as the missing link in the commercialisation value chain. Australia is a recognised world leader in researching innovation in sectors including water, renewable energy, mining, agriculture, biotechnology, nanotechnology and information technology. In recent years some research has made it to market, well known examples being Cochlear, Radiata, ResMed and Gardasil.

However, taking a product from the laboratory to global market requires an integrated continuum of programs and services covering: mentoring, management, money and market access. Often these programs are standalone, under resourced and transitory. World best practice programs and services may be left isolated as gaps appear in the continuum. For instance, we all know that a standalone technology incubator isolated from deal flow, grant and mentoring programs and links to angel funding will struggle in the long term.

The 2008 AAAI Angel Policy Forum will hear:

  • Best practice angel policy and programs from US, UK, NZ;
  • Existing Australian investment readiness programs;
  • Proposals for new Australian angel policies; and
  • How angel networks may assist in global market access.
